February 2 is James Joyce’s birthday (b. 1882), and the day on which the greatest novel in the English language, Ulysses, was published in 1922. It is also the day my friend Margaret dropped by with a box of her Scotch Rocker Truffles: dipped chocolates filled with fat, smooth, dark ganache redolent of Laphroiag and golden-haired Drambuie. No, they aren’t Irish whiskey or even masticated seedcake, but they speak the word known to all men.*
Margaret’s Truffles and other local arts and crafts outfits will be selling their wares at the St. Valentine Handcraft Sale on Saturday, February 9. Some proceeds will benefit student groups at the Newman Center.
